Theft of sports car from petrol station forcourt with keys left in the ignition.

Mr G left his car keys in the ignition of his new Audi TT, on a petrol station forecourt, whilst he went into the shop to pay for his fuel. He left his car unlocked.

Whilst he was paying, his saw his beloved car being driven off at high speed.

He was devastated to learn, when he submitted a claim to his Insurers for the theft, that his motor policy carried an exclusion which stated that his Insurers would not be liable for any theft where the car had been left unattended or unoccupied and the doors and boot were not locked OR if the key(s)used to gain entry / operate the car were not removed from car.

Mr G's Insurers rejected his claim, which was in excess of £27,000.


Mr G approached Insco and we were eventually able to obtain payment in full for Mr G, plus interest from the date that the vehicle had been stolen.
